An important collaboration
Have you noticed the sensations in your body after exercising?
Today I did. I noticed my body feeling alive, awake and energized after attending a virtual dance class. My favorite part is always towards the end of class when we practice the dances with music. The heart rate increases, the body moves with the music, and it feels like playtime.
During the class, our dance teacher reminded that it is very important to not compare our movement to others in the class, how each of us is going through an individual journey. She encouraged us, instead, to pay attention to how our own body feels in class, to observe changes in our balance or our ability to do more complicated movements while having fun.
This is an important reminder, for movement and in life.
There is no need to compare ourselves with others.
Each of us is living a unique journey in a unique body with a unique metabolism.
Learning how to work in collaboration with our own body with curiosity and kindness is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves.
Today, body and mind aligned, I can breathe, stretch, and relax knowing that I am taking small consistent steps forward. That brings me joy.
