The long journey from stress to calm
Last month I was invited to speak at a corporate event. The talk was about the challenges faced in the workplace during this recovery phase of the pandemic. Researching and preparing for this talk made me reflect deeply on my own personal recovery journey.
My expertise in stress management and body-mind practices started as a quest for resources that would help ease the anxiety that I was experiencing inside. Every challenge I’ve had from the age of 20 onwards, has equipped me with a new level of awareness and inner resources that have been helpful at later years.
I have not done this alone.
The brief message that I would like to share with you today is that:
1) Choices matter. When we you are swimming in the circle of stress, is easy to be passive because of the amount of effort that is required to take a step forward. Recovery is an active process. You are the one that must take the first step forward.
2) Finding the right support. If you are feeling overwhelmed, there is someone who can help you. It must be a good match. Keep searching until you find the one person, practice and/or supportive community that makes you feel that you are moving forward.
3) Energy, sleep & movement. Your body requires energy to move forward. You acquire that energy from the food you choose to eat, how much you protect your sleep from distractions and how you move your body during the day. It is possible to rewire the structure of your daily life so that it supports all aspects of your well-being. The tiny decisions count.
If I have been able to re-wire my life (and my mind) to find moments of joy and inner calm, others can do it too.
I invite you today, to take a couple of minutes to think about how you are feeling right now. Celebrate what's going well and evaluate in which areas of your life you are ready to make some upgrades.
Wishing you a healthy and mindful transition as we close 2021.
With gratitude,
Tania
