It rained last night. As I was walking to my teacher’s home, I got soaked. I didn’t have an umbrella, so my coat, shoes and bag were completely wet.
When my teacher opened the door, she immediately brought a hanger to put my coat near the radiator in her apartment. My green scarf, walking shoes, coat and bag ended all near the heater while we worked.
We looked at the video series that I have been working on lately, those that I’ve been recording outdoors with the help of the undergraduate student who is collaborating on my mindful walk project.
Immediately, I saw my teacher’s face change. I could tell she was thinking, ideas were simmering. Then she smiled. “Let’s think of which other exercises you can do with the trees while you are outdoors”.
She walked and stood in front of the entrance door as if it was a tree and started to show me all the different things that were possible. Arms up, stretching the back, stretch to the side, posture, balance, strengthening abs, etc.
I started recording our conversation, as the ideas were flowing from her mind and from my mind. I was showing her the exercises I usually do, and we added so many more to the repertoire.
As I was stretching my arms up, placing the hands on the door, bringing the attention to my breathing, followed by some very gentle twists, I felt it.
I felt the tension release, the mind at ease, landing in the present moment with a sense of relief.
I told her: “Two minds and these conversations always enrich the projects in more ways than one could do alone”.
By the end of our session, we were listening to music of flute that I can use outdoors for some other movement exercises.
The before and after the session, like the other weeks, a smile on my face, feeling that that was a golden hour in my day, feeling inspired and awake, and filled with energy to move ahead.
So, this morning when I walked outside and I saw the puddles of water on the ground, I was reminded of the rain last night.
How many insights I gained and how lucky I am to have a new day to begin my work again.
