The red tree and the apple
Welcome to your postcard from Paris!
I am grateful that schools and parks have remained open during this lockdown. That has made such a big difference.
Every time that I go outside to buy food or pick up my daughter from school, I take a moment to observe a small tree around the corner. Its color has turned to bright red that contrasts with the green trees and the building nearby.
Speaking about colors, last Thursday I went to our local producers also very near our home. I collected all the seasonal vegetables that I needed.
I was about to pay when I overheard the manager of the store speaking to the only other person that was there at the time.
He was speaking about a specific variety of apple. He said: "It is a little acid, but sweet, crunchy and much better eaten raw than cooked”. In that moment, I was sold to the idea of testing this variety of apple. I quickly got 4 to try them out.
Its color was red like the tree, but with a little bit of yellow.
When I got home, I decided to give it a try. I cut it in pieces and shared with my family. We were not expecting much, because, an apple is an apple. We thought it would taste similar to the other apples I had bought there before. However, this apple’s was different. It was a feast for the mouth. We all agreed that it was way better than we had expected.
There are many different apple varieties available right now in France…. Have you discovered your favorite one?
